Valentine's Day is all about sharing the love, and of course, chocolate!
In Japan, Valentine's Day was popularised in Kobe by a confectioner called Morozoff and marketed to overseas residents. Since then, Valentine's in Japan has been centred around confectionery. Kobe also happens to be the place that Ueshima Coffee Company was founded in 1933!
We couldn't think of a better way to show your love than by making these indulgent Chocolate Coffee Truffles, combining two of life's greatest treats - chocolate and coffee!
Check out our easy Chocolate Coffee Truffles recipe for a sweet idea to gift to your loved one.
Ingredients needed to make our Chocolate Coffee Truffles.
You will need:
-
200g dark chocolate
-
1/2 tbsp butter
-
140ml heavy cream
-
1 tbsp Ueshima finely coffee beans (finely ground - select the finest setting on your grinder!)
-
1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
How to make Chocolate Coffee Truffles:
-
Heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan, along with your finely ground Ueshima coffee over low heat. Stir until combined and the cream begins to bubble around the edges of the pan.
-
Break your chocolate into pieces and place in a medium bowl along with the butter.
-
Take the warm coffee cream and pour evenly over the bowl of chocolate and butter. Let it rest untouched for about 3 minutes before you start stirring. At this point, you can always add a splash of your favourite coffee liqueur! Stir until all the chocolate has melted.
-
Pour this mixture into a shallow flat pan, (8x8in works great, or a standard loaf tin). Add plastic wrap directly on top of the mixture and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
-
Scoop a heaping teaspoon and dollop it onto a lined plate or baking sheet. Continue to do this with the rest of the mixture. Place this, uncovered, back into the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Once set, roll each one and then place in a small bowl with your cocoa powder. Cover with cocoa powder and set aside. Continue with the rest of the mixture.
-
Cover tightly and store in room temperature for 4 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 2 week.
Enjoy!
